Year 6 have been using ‘A Christmas Carol’ in literacy and have already used the Do Ink Green Screen app to read Scrooge’s obituary. They then wanted to produce animations based around the ghosts visiting Scrooge and so some of the Digital Leaders chose to try the Puppet Pals app, and then taught the rest of Year 6 how to use it.
We can’t wait to see the finished results, which will be posted on individual blogs.
The video below will show you how to use the App 🙂
We are very excited to announce that our Digital Leader’s blog has been shortlisted for the Edublog awards! We would really appreciate it if you could take the time to vote before 16th December by clicking on this Edublog awards . Click on the drop down menu and select “Best Group Blog”, then scroll down to
mrsjones.laytonblogs.net and click on “vote”.
It would be fantastic for you to take 30 seconds to vote for us, as our Digital Leaders work extremely hard to share all our work with our school and a global audience!
Today, Year 6 have been writing an obituary for the death of Ebenezer Scrooge and wanted to perform reading their writing, as though they were town criers announcing his death.
Our Digital Leaders have been trialling a great app called Green Screen by Do Ink, for the iPad, and love its ease and how user friendly it is. Our green screen area was in use and so I used SmartNotebook to turn the board green and that was used as a background to film Kai. The first layer in Do Ink was of a Victorian sence found, seond layer video of Kai and the third layer was of snow falling.
We’re pretty impressed with the first video, what do you think?

The first task of our new Digital Leaders was to design a logo, which will be used on our blog, Twitter, badges and material we send out. We are going to shortlist designs and then have a vote for the winner.
At lunchtime today: Wes, Olly, George and Lewis (some of our Year 6 Digital Leaders) used the Tickle App on the iPads to start coding Sphero. George couldn’t understand why his wouldn’t go in a straight line and then relised his first code was to ‘turn right 90 degrees’. Next time they are going to set up an obstacle course.
Today in Year 6, we read the first two pages of Scrooge, written by Charles Dickens, and pulled apart the description of him in order to gain a sound understanding of his character, ready for writing our own descriptions tomorrow.
Jody and Mitch (Year 6 Digital Leaders) showed 6B how to use Popplet, a great app, which can be used for creating mind-maps. The maps produced will be a fantastic help to support our writing tomorrow.
Please let us know if you use Popplet and your reviews on it.
Well, I’ve finally received the ‘official’ photgraph from last week’s awards evening where we won:
Primary School pupil of the year – a huge congratulations to Wes! Primary School of the year
The Innovation in Technology Award – Well done to our fantastic team of Digital Leaders!
In addition, Mr Clucas was highly commended for Headteacher of the year and deserves every recognition for the vision he brought to our school, which has seen us rise from the bottom 47% of schools nationally to the top 1%! A fantatsic achievement, which was recognised with Primary School of the year. I feel extremely proud to be part of the Layton family.
I’m also extremely proud of the relentless work our Digital Leaders do and it was fantatsic that: Amelie, Olly, Wes and Mitch were there to reecieve the award on behalf of all the Digital Leaders. They are the drivers in school for: blogging, tweeting, iMovie club, GarageBand, Coding, Sphero, Makey Makey, App club to name a few things. I love their geekness and learn so much from working with every single one of them!
